Preschool Boost · Adelaide · For early childhood educators

Every room has children who can't yet join in or play.
We help your team show them how.

When the big feelings, the hard transitions and the children on the edge of every game start to stretch your team, you don't have to work it out on your own. AkindaCo's therapists come into your centre through Preschool Boost and work alongside your educators, one practical step at a time.

A quote and provisional dates within two business days. Priced per session, not per person.

You know these children

If any of this sounds familiar, you're in exactly the right place.

  • A child who watches the play from the edge and never quite gets in.
  • The same game, the same way, every day, and it falls apart when another child joins.
  • Big feelings at drop-off, pack-up and every transition in between.
  • Behaviour that doesn't respond to anything in your usual toolkit.
  • A team that cares deeply and is running out of ideas.

None of this means your team is doing it wrong. It means some children need a different kind of support. And so do the adults around them.

Inside the training

What the ATCD Training covers

Six units of three hours each. They build on each other, so we recommend the full series, but you can book single units.

  • Unit 1: Foundations of attachment and development

How early relationships shape the developing brain, how to recognise attachment patterns in your room, and your role as a secure base.

  • Unit 2: Understanding trauma in the early years

How hard early experiences show up in three to five year olds, and how to see the unmet need underneath the behaviour.

  • Unit 3: Creating safe and predictable environments

Everyday routines, rhythms and transitions that help children feel safe, with culturally responsive practice built in.

  • Unit 4: Co-regulation and emotional literacy

How co-regulation works, how to build emotional vocabulary, and how to get ahead of big feelings instead of reacting to them.

  • Unit 5: Embedding therapeutic practice into daily routines

Turning mealtimes, arrivals and transitions into developmental moments, and supporting one child while the group keeps moving.

  • Unit 6: Engaging families through an attachment lens

Tricky conversations with empathy and clarity, coaching caregivers on co-regulation, and keeping centre and home consistent.

Working together

What we'll ask of your centre

A few honest asks, so you know exactly what you're saying yes to.

  • The same two educators

For Learn to Play, two educators join every week and stay in the group for the full two hours. They are learning the program alongside our therapist, so they can keep it going.

  • Help choosing the children

Your team knows which children are stuck in their play. You suggest the group, and we confirm it together at the set-up visit.

  • Time for your team

For ATCD Training, educators are released for the three hours of each unit, in a room with a screen.

  • A space to work

A play space for the group, and somewhere quiet for the conversations with educators before and after.

  • Notice if plans change

Centres are busy and things come up. Let us know as early as you can if a session cannot go ahead.

Your team has enough on its plate.
Let's plan this together.

Good questions

The things educators and directors ask us first

Is the price per educator?

No. Every price is per session for your whole team.

Is the 17 weeks for all three programs?

No. Only Learn to Play runs for 17 program weeks. ATCD Training is six units, and you can book just one. Allied Health Supports is by the hour.

Can ATCD Training run after hours or online?

Yes, and we get a lot of requests for after-hours sessions. We also notice that the end of a working day is rarely when a team learns best, so where it is possible we recommend running units during the day. Units can run online or in your centre. Learn to Play is always in your room.

Can we hold dates before our plan is approved?

Yes. We pencil in your dates with the quote, and nothing is invoiced until you confirm in writing.

What happens in a Learn to Play visit?

Each two-hour visit has three parts: 30 minutes with your educators, a 60-minute play group with the children, and 30 minutes of reflection and planning. Your educators learn to run the group themselves. The program runs weekly, and we can pause over school holidays if desired.

Which children is Learn to Play for?

Children who seem stuck in their play, who repeat the same simple themes, who find it hard to join other children's play, or whose communication is still emerging. Children are chosen for where they are in their play, not for their behaviour.

What if a session is cancelled?

If we cancel, we make it up at no charge. If your centre cancels with less than two business days' notice, the session is charged.

What do we get at the end?

CPD certificates for educators, and for Learn to Play an end-of-program summary you can use in your reporting, plus a team who can keep the group going.

Can Allied Health Supports be used for one child?

No. Preschool Boost funds work with groups and educators, not individual therapy.
